Walter is Complete

Today I finished Walters portrait!!

Recently I read a coloured pencil book by one of my favorite coloured pencil artists. She recommended indenting the paper somewhere with your signature that would eventually be shaded over. I hadn't gotten the chance till now to try it but I think it turned out pretty nice. It doesn't seem to distract too much from the portrait itself either.

This portrait took me about a month or so. I hope its enjoyed by his wonderful owners. Now on to my next project, whatever it might be.

Walter Almost Done

Walter is now a whole dog :) Now for the shadow underneath him. It will probably have a green tint as he was sitting on the grass in the original picture.

This week I am puppy sitting him.  He sure has changed since his puppy days. I wonder if he snored as bad back then as he is right now :) Its different having the subject of a drawing around while I'm drawing him. If only my drawing could capture his character. What a fun picture that would be.

Walter's portrait should be able to go home with him when his owners come to pick him up in a week or so.

Walter the Two Legged Dog

Well, Walter has two legs. The other two will be along shortly. But in no way does that mean he will be complete. I still have a lot of work to do on him before he is ready to go to his owner.

Sorry about the low quality of the photos. I take pictures of my drawings as I go along with my iPhone. When the final project is done I will be sure to take a picture of him with a proper camera for you all to get a good look at this hansom dog.

Baxter & Toby

Here is a picture in sepia that I did for my parents of their two little dogs, Baxter and Toby. Its 11x17 in size. I had it framed and it looks great. Unfortunately with the glass I am unable to get a good photo of it.

Coloured Pencil Class Homework

Here are a few pieces that I did as homework for a coloured pencil class I took in June. It was in this class titled, Birds of Alberta, that I found birds were not something I enjoyed drawing. However, I did learn a lot about coloured pencil techniques. It was also fun to meet people who like coloured pencils as much as I do.

Abby

Abby was my first dog done in sepia. Her owner is my brothers fiance and I did this picture for her birthday in May.

Boxer

Here is a Boxer that I did for a friend in June. Unfortunately the corner of the picture was bent so I have been pressing it for the last little while.

Walter's Head

Walter's head is complete. Now to finish his body. The paper I am using is Fawn Stonehedge paper It seems to work really well with coloured pencils and the multiple layers it takes to get the art to where you want it. Fawn is a great colour and helps the white on Walter stand out nice.

The areas I found most difficult to do were his cheeks and his gums. But all in all, I think he is turning out quite nicely.
